travel asia japan toba mikimoto pearl island

Mikimoto Pearl Island is a small island just off the waterfront of Toba and within easy walking distance from the cruise terminal.
The island is beautifully manicured and maintained and features a restaurant, pearl shop, pearl museum, pearl diver demonstrations, and a memorial to Mikimoto.
All elements of the island are clean and beautifully presented.
The museum and the memorial are probably the most interesting providing informative displays on both the art of culturing a pearl and the life of Mikimoto.
The pearl diving demonstration provides a short photo opportunity for visitors to see the historic way the ama dove to recover the oysters.
The entrance fee, with a cruise card, was about $14.00... about $16 without.
An escalator takes you up to a pedestrian bridge which spans the water to the nearby island.
The care taken in the presentations and the information provided led to the rating (below).
